![]() The early church, again influenced by paganism, re-established a priesthood that added a barrier between the “ordinary” believer and God (1 Timothy 2:5 Hebrews 9:15). Jesus’ perfect sacrifice abolished the need of a formal priesthood (Hebrews 10:12-14), creating instead a “kingdom of priests” (Revelation 1:6 5:10). The early church, due to pagan influences, warped the celebration of the Lord’s Supper into a re-sacrifice / re-offering of Christ’s once-for-all sacrifice. Jesus’ sacrifice fulfilled God’s requirements, ending the need for any further sacrifices (Hebrews 7:27 10:10 1 Peter 3:18). Sadly, much of what Jesus Christ abolished by His death and resurrection, the early Christians re-established. Many Christians recognize that some pagan ideas and practices have infiltrated the Christian church. But is it accurate to claim that the practices of modern Christianity are pagan? Is what typically occurs in a church supported by what the Bible teaches about the church? The authors of Pagan Christianity claim that many common church practices / traditions actually have their roots in paganism (non-Christian religions), not in the Bible. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In their 2008 book Pagan Christianity, authors Frank Viola and George Barna present the surprising origins of many of the practices commonly found in churches today. ![]() ![]() Trust me when I say I REALLY wanted to like this book, and actually finishing this book seems to be quite the feat since most people DNFed it. ![]() I loved Mead’s Vampire Academy series so I thought well maybe I’ll love this one anyways. Gary Chapman, a marriage counselor, developed a framework to help couples address some of these questions, and strengthen their ability to communicate effectively in his book, The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love That Lasts. It is easy to assume that we all have the same definition of love, or that our partners know what we mean when we say, “I love you.” Different people can have different ideas about what romantic love means, and how it is or should be expressed. So, what does it mean to be in love? How can we make sure that we are on the same page with our partners even after we have reached the stage where “I love you” feels second nature? Applying The 5 Love Languages™ to healthy relationships may be the way. ![]() ![]() So Silverfin, the first in a series of Charlie Higson’s fully authorised prequels to the most famous of all British Secret Service agents, has mightily big boots to fill. I know, I know, unlikely, improbable, almost downright impossible for an HEA in circumstances like these. The hero, Harry, is a land steward hired to run her estate. The heroine, Georgina, is wealthy, a landowner in her own right, and a lady. To get those pesky details out of the way: this is a servant/aristocrat story. As a result, he went so far as to hope that his father and brothers would outlive him, so convinced he was that he would be a terrible ruler who would bring Ironforge to ruin. Magni grew up feeling the weight of every dwarf in Ironforge’s expectations for himself and the Bronzebeard clan - he didn’t particularly want to become king, but saw it as his duty. Magni Bronzebeard is the eldest of the three Bronzebeard brothers, and as such, he was born the heir to the throne of Ironforge and the Bronzebeard clan, which had ruled in Ironforge since the War of the Three Hammers saw the Dark Irons and Wildhammer clans driven out and the Anvilmar family deposed from their traditional position as High Kings of all dwarves.
